Concrete Queenz Board Member Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities 

Overview

Board Members of Concrete Queenz serve as strategic advisors, advocates, and stewards of the organization’s mission to empower girls through skateboarding, mentorship, and community building. Their leadership ensures that Concrete Queenz remains mission-driven, financially sound, and impactful in its programming.

General Duties

1. Mission Alignment and Governance

  • Uphold and support the mission, values, and goals of Concrete Queenz.

  • Ensure the organization complies with legal and ethical standards.

  • Actively participate in strategic planning and organizational development.

2. Financial Oversight

  • Review and approve annual budgets and financial reports.

  • Monitor the organization’s financial health and sustainability.

  • Participate in fundraising efforts and contribute personally to the organization annually. ($500 minimum)

3. Leadership and Advocacy

  • Serve as ambassadors of the organization within the community and relevant networks.

  • Provide guidance, support, and oversight to the Executive Director.

  • Participate in evaluating the performance of the Executive Director annually.

4. Board Engagement

  • Attend all regular and special board meetings.

  • Serve on at least one committee and participate actively.

  • Prepare for meetings by reviewing agendas and materials in advance.

Specific Tasks

  • Approve major policies, programs, and initiatives.

  • Participate in annual board self-assessments and board development.

  • Help identify and recruit qualified new board members.

  • Assist with special events, programming, or projects as needed.

  • Provide expertise or access to professional networks that benefit Concrete Queenz.

Responsibilities

  • Duty of Care: Make decisions in good faith, with the care of an ordinarily prudent person in a like position.

  • Duty of Loyalty: Put the interests of the organization above personal or professional interests.

  • Duty of Obedience: Ensure that the organization operates in accordance with its stated mission and complies with laws and regulations.

Time Commitment

  • Quarterly Board Meetings: ~2 hours per meeting.

  • Committee Work: ~2–4 hours monthly.

  • Events and Fundraising: Varies depending on programming and involvement.

  • Annual Retreat/Strategic Planning Session: One full-day session annually.

*More than 2 unexcused absences per year constitute a resignation from the board.

Term and Renewal

  • Board Members serve a term of 2 years, with the opportunity for renewal.

  • Members are expected to give notice in advance if they are unable to fulfill their term.

Code of Conduct

Board Members are expected to:

  • Maintain confidentiality of board discussions and organizational materials.

  • Disclose any potential conflicts of interest.

  • Engage in respectful and constructive communication.
